The spot
West Mersea sits on the Blackwater estuary and offers sheltered, swell-free flatwater. It is also one of the busiest small-boat anchorages on the east coast, with a centuries-old oyster fishery whose beds are both legally protected and extremely sharp underfoot.
This is a spot where local knowledge counts. The creeks and channels are complicated, the mud is soft, and the moorings are everywhere.
