The spot
Marazion sits on Mount's Bay beneath St Michael's Mount, facing south. It is the spot Cornish riders use when the north coast is unrideable, and the local club rides it from south-east round to west. A south-easterly funnels between the Mount and the village and often blows harder than forecast; a straight easterly is gusty at this end, and riders move west towards Long Rock.
The access nuance is worth knowing: the beach is privately owned by St Aubyn's Estates. Private individuals may use it, but instructors and other organisations must request permission from the estate's land agent. Rock and reef surround the Mount, and its causeway floods with the tide. Long Rock, the next stretch west along the same bay, is usually quieter.
