The spot
Druridge Bay is a five-mile arc of dune-backed sand between Cresswell and Hauxley. There is more room here than at any other beach in the North East, the wind in its working window — north-north-east round to south-south-west — comes in clean off the sea, and on a good day you can ride for a mile without seeing anyone.
One rule matters: there is a permanent no-kiting zone near the main beach access, in force all year. Walk along before you rig. The dunes and pools behind the beach form a nature reserve, so stay on the sand, and be honest about the water temperature — the North Sea here rarely exceeds fifteen degrees even in August.
