The spot
Broughton Bay sits at the north-western corner of the Gower where the peninsula meets the Burry Inlet. It offers flat sand, clean north-westerly wind and considerably fewer people than the beaches on either side.
The Burry Inlet entrance past Whiteford Point is the hazard — the streams there are strong and drifting north into them is a serious situation. Whiteford Burrows behind the beach is a National Nature Reserve and the estuary is internationally protected, so stay on the sand.
