The spot
Thorpe Bay offers a similar experience to Shoebury East Beach but with a different aspect: it is more exposed to westerlies, which makes it the spot to choose when the wind swings round and Shoebury's south-east facing beach stops working.
The same estuary conditions apply — shallow, swell-free water, a very long muddy walk at low tide, and a ninety-minute window either side of high water to avoid. Third-party insurance is required across the Southend area.
