Need to know
The things that catch people out here.
- Nine artificial rock reefs sit just offshore. They create the sheltered bays that make the spot work and they are the thing you will hit.
- At higher tides the reefs are partly submerged and much harder to see.
- Rips run through the gaps between reefs.

The spot
Sea Palling's beach is shaped by nine artificial rock reefs built offshore as sea defences. They have created a series of sheltered sandy bays with noticeably flatter water than the open Norfolk coast, which is what makes the spot worth visiting.
They are also exactly what you will hit. The reefs are hard, sharp and become partly submerged as the tide rises, and rips run through the gaps between them. Know where they are and ride at lower tides when they are clearly visible.
