The spot
Longniddry Bents is a run of shallow, sheltered bays on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, twenty-five minutes from Edinburgh. It is the closest real learner water to the city and works across a wide range of directions.
Rock ledges are exposed at low tide along much of the shore, so boots are worth wearing. Aberlady Bay immediately to the east is Britain's first Local Nature Reserve and internationally important for overwintering geese — keep kites away from it entirely.
