Hove Lawns
Brighton's city beach: convenient, steep, deep, gusty and crowded. Ride Lancing instead if you can.

Need to know
The things that catch people out here.
- Brighton is convenient, not good. Deep water immediately, steep shingle, no sandbar to soften anything.
- Summer swimming zones are actively enforced along the central seafront. Ride west of Hove Lawns.
- The piers disturb the wind badly. Give both a wide margin.
- If you have the time to drive, Lancing is twenty minutes west and a far better beach.

The spot
Hove Lawns is where Brighton riders go when they cannot face the drive. The Lawns give a big grass rigging area — genuinely useful — but the beach itself is steep shingle with deep water immediately offshore and no sandbar to knock the chop down.
The piers are the other problem. Both the Palace Pier and the West Pier remains create hard obstacles and badly disturbed wind, and the summer swimming zones push kites west along the Hove frontage. It is a competent rider's convenience spot, not a beach to learn or progress on. Lancing, twenty minutes west, is materially better in almost every respect.
