The things that catch people out here.
- The grass sward behind the beach is the best rigging area on this stretch of coast — much easier than the shingle at Worthing.
- Same groyne rule as Lancing: if you cannot see them, do not ride.
- Considerably quieter than Lancing three miles east, which is the main reason to come here.

The spot
Goring Gap is the open stretch between Goring and Ferring where the seafront housing gives way to a wide grass sward. That grass is the draw: it is far easier to lay out lines on than the shingle at Worthing or Lancing, and there is enough of it that a busy day still feels roomy.
Conditions are typical of this coast — cross-onshore south-westerlies, moderate chop, and groynes that vanish at high tide. The usual Sussex rule applies: ride when you can see them. Local schools rotate between here, Ferring and Brooklands depending on what the wind and tide are doing.
