The spot
Fleetwood and Rossall Point sit at the northern end of the Fylde coast, with a wide sandy beach at lower tides and a large promenade behind. The wind is consistent and clean off the Irish Sea.
The sea wall is the constraint. It is modern rock armour and concrete, and at high water the sea reaches it, leaving nowhere to launch or land. With eight and a half metres of spring range, mid to low tide is the only sensible window. The Wyre estuary just north runs strong streams — stay south of the mouth.
