The spot
Brean runs south from Brean Down towards Burnham and offers some of the largest expanses of hard, flat sand in the country. You can drive onto parts of the beach, which makes it wonderfully convenient and is also how people regularly manage to get their cars flooded.
The Bristol Channel rules apply: over twelve metres of spring range, a sea that returns across the flats faster than you can walk, and areas of soft mud and sinking sand towards the river channels. It is shared with land yachts, buggies and landboarders as well as kitesurfers, so there is usually someone about.
